London, UK, 24 Aug 2011 – Nikon today announces its first camera designed specifically for outdoor use. Waterproof, shockproof and freeze-proof, the COOLPIX AW100 is robust enough for any activity, and will deliver stunning images whether you are skiing or snorkelling. The COOLPIX ‘All Weather’ (AW) category will join the three existing COOLPIX segments of Style (S), Performance (P) and Life (L) cameras.

Built to capture the action on land or in the water, the COOLPIX AW100 is the perfect companion for an active lifestyle. Waterproof to depths of 10m, shockproof from heights of up to 1.5m and freeze-proof for temperatures down to -10°C, it is the perfect camera for the great outdoors. High-tech features such as built-in Global Positioning System (GPS), an electronic compass and built-in world map* mean you can easily geo-tag your images, orientate yourself in new places and track your route when you are on the move.
Uncompromised image quality
The COOLPIX AW100 is packed with all the latest imaging technology you would expect from a COOLPIX camera, so outstanding pictures are guaranteed whether you’re surfing a wave or climbing a mountain. The highly sensitive 16 megapixel back illuminated CMOS sensor and dedicated low light modes combine to deliver stunning results under bright sunlight, at night or when diving underwater.

To ensure maximum quality movies and images, the AW100 also incorporates a NIKKOR wide-angle 5x zoom lens, Full HD (1080p) movie recording with stereo sound and four advanced blur-reduction functions to minimise the effects of subject movement, low light and camera shake.
The Easy Panorama feature extends your view even further by offering 360° and 180° photos. While you pan vertically or horizontally across a scene, the camera’s CMOS sensor takes a rapid burst of frames which are merged to instantly create a beautiful panorama.
Easy operation
The COOLPIX AW100 makes operation easy, leaving you to get on with enjoying the action. For capturing submerged scenes just as you see them, there’s a simple Underwater mode, which automatically adjusts the camera’s white balance setting. You can set up and snap pictures with just one hand when the Action-Control button is pressed: once activated, the settings of the camera can be changed by simply swinging the camera back and forth, so you can take pictures on the slopes without even removing a glove.
The COOLPIX AW100 comes in five colours: camouflage, orange, black, white and blue.
ViewNX 2
ViewNX 2 is an all-in-one software package that enables users to quickly and easily import, browse, edit and share still images and movies. Building upon the highly successful ViewNX software, ViewNX 2 is a user-friendly suite that offers a huge range of features, going well beyond those supplied as part of a PC’s operating system. Newly-incorporated advanced movie-editing functions have been taken directly from Nikon’s award-winning DSLR range, enabling users to create stunning movie footage. ViewNX 2 is included with all Nikon digital cameras and is also available as a free download.
EXPEED C2
The original EXPEED image processing system incorporated all of the accumulated expertise and technologies developed throughout Nikon’s long history. Now, the latest evolution of Nikon’s renowned system, EXPEED C2, expands the possibilities of photography even further, with enhanced movie recording, high-sensitivity performance and maximum image quality. EXPEED C2 maximizes sensor performance for clear, life-like images that exhibit vivid colors, reduced noise and smooth tonal gradations for outstanding photos and movies.
