Nikon Owner South Coast Group: Summer Walkabout – Historic Southampton

Summer Walkabout No. 2 Historic Southampton, Saturday, August 20th

Meet at North Side of The Bargate at 15:30

Andy Hewson has kindly arranged our second walk of the summer is a short one around the historic city we regularly meet in, but usually don’t get to see: Southampton.

Meeting at the Bargate at 15:30, we’ll proceed anti-clockwise round the old wall where there are plenty of opportunities for photographing the architecture, both ancient and modern of the city as well as street scenes. Look out in particular for contrasting the ‘old’ and ‘new’ as well as abstract views and unusual angles. We will end the walk down near the water at Mayflower Park, before adjourning to our usual evening haunt of The Duke of Wellington for refreshments (or if the British Summer weather runs true to form, we might end up in the ‘Duke a little early πŸ˜‰ ).

If you are planning on joining us for the walk and refreshments afterwards, please can you post a reply on the Nikon Owner Message Board

Old and new buildings in Southhampton

Getting there:

By Car: You’ll probably be coming down the M27 (from the West or North): just fall off the motorway at junction 3, and then head south towards Southampton on the M271. Turn left onto the A35 and follow signs onto the A3024 to the City Centre and The Docks.

There is plenty of parking in Southampton City Centre (click to open map in new window).

By Train: Lots of trains go to Southampton Central Station. At the station exit on the South Side (down line side from London), turn left, and proceed up the A3024 Western Esplanade up the hill. Follow the map (below) to find the Bargate (green marker in the centre).

The approximate route of the walk is shown above, and you can see more detail by visiting the: Nikon Owner Commuity Walk Map
