Following Guy Edwardes outstanding and very popular presentation on Wildlife Photography, Nikon Owner South-East Group coordinator Paul Stillman is delighted to invite you to his next Nikon Owner Evening Webinar, ‘Starting From A Blank Canvas’ by Polina Plotnikova, taking place on Wednesday, 24th February.
Do you, like most of us, visit places that seem photogenic and then walk around them looking for things that might make a photograph? Even when, as now, our mobility is restricted we are told to be aware of our surroundings and look beyond the obvious. There is another way, and Polina Plotnikova is an undisputed master of making, rather than taking, pictures. She visualises the image in her mind and then creates it with all the feelings and emotions that produce so much more than a simple statement of fact.
She is therefore studio based and will feature two of her favourite photographic subjects, creative flower portraiture and still life. Both themes will be richly illustrated from her work.
About Polina Plotnikova
A Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and holder of an EFIAP photography distinction, Polina has won eight gold and silver medals at Royal Horticultural Society competitions, with distinctions in the Food Photographer of The Year and International Garden Photographer of The Year competitions, amongst many others.
The evening will be in two parts.
In the ‘Flower Portraits’ she will describe her approach to flower photography and similarities to portrait photography: finding a unique look, expressing it’s mood, character and beauty rather than an accurate botanical image in it’s natural habitat.
Then in ‘Still Life’ she will talk about using composition, light, textures and colours to realise the vision she had in her mind expressed as a picture, and how all these details are thought through before proceeding to take photographs. There will be a few schematic illustrations to show the studio hardware and the various stages of assembling a still-life setup.
