Nikon 1 - V2

London, UK, 24 October 2012: Nikon today introduces the ultra-fast Nikon 1 V2 and propels the Nikon 1 family full speed ahead.

The first camera in the family to be equipped with second-generation Nikon 1 technology, the Nikon 1 V2 builds on the astonishing speed and portable design that helped Nikon 1 become the biggest-selling compact camera system across Europe[1].

Nikon-1-V2-WhiteOffering new levels of speed and more accurate performance, as well as clever next-generation features, full creative control, and wireless methods of image transfer, the Nikon 1 V2 is a versatile main camera and a superb second camera. Designed for enthusiasts, it ensures that no one has to compromise on still image or movie quality just because they want to travel light.

Simon Iddon, Product Manager, Nikon 1 Compact System Cameras, Nikon UK, says, “The Nikon 1 V2 is an ideal second camera for photographers looking for a combination of creative freedom, quick response and the flexibility to change lenses in a small portable design.

He adds: “The option to shoot with 1 NIKKOR lenses or a favourite Nikon D-SLR lens, as well as camera ergonomics familiar to enthusiasts will make the Nikon 1 V2 the first choice for D-SLR owners.”

Nikon-ExpeedFull Speed Ahead
First-generation Nikon 1 technology introduced photographic intelligence and beauty at world-beating speeds. Now, the Nikon 1 V2 raises the bar with Nikon’s next-generation EXPEED 3A dual-image processor that can process images at an incredible 850 megapixels-per-second. Swift shooting speeds of up to 15 fps[2] with continuous autofocus, and up to 60 fps[3] with fixed-point AF, enable high-quality images of even super-fast action. Subjects come into focus without delay thanks to the advanced hybrid AF system that boasts fast phase-detection AF for high-speed movement, and contrast-detect AF for capturing subtle details even in low light. The sensor instantly switches between the 73 phase-detection focus areas and the 135 contrast-detect focus areas depending on the scene, ensuring superb images and movies in a wide range of environments.

Low light, high performance
Nikon-1-V2-CMOSWith an increased 14.2-megapixel resolution and 160 to 6400 ISO light sensitivity, the Nikon 1 V2 delivers detailed photos and movies, even when you shoot in low light situations. Nikon’s CX-format CMOS sensor offers the ideal balance between system size, speed, light sensitivity, resolution, and depth-of-field, enabling high-quality still image and movie recording without sacrificing portability. The option to shoot with high ISO settings means you’ll capture enough light even when shooting at speeds of up to 60 fps, and an automatic image sensor cleaning function minimises the effect of dust.

Designed for Enthusiasts
Nikon’s dedication to superior ergonomics makes the Nikon 1 V2 an admirable blend of form and function. Pick the camera up and you’ll be impressed by how solid and sturdy it feels. Refinements include a magnesium alloy front for tough portability, and the newly developed shutter unit has been tested to 100,000 cycles for superior speed and reliability. The shutter release button has an integrated power switch for speedy start-up and immediate shooting. The high-performance, 1440k-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) is located along the optical axis to aid composition. A large grip allows a steady hold on the camera, and the built-in flash means there’s always extra light on hand when you need it.

Nikon-1-V2-TopFull creative control
When you want the freedom to shoot scenes exactly as you please, the mode dial on top of the camera offers quick, direct access to PSAM exposure controls, and you can directly access key settings such as ISO and white balance simply by pressing the function button. The command dial boasts a push functionality that lets you confirm selections, or changes to settings, without taking your eye away from the viewfinder. Whether you want to freeze action or blur backgrounds, Live Image Control lets you view the effects of changes to exposure settings in real time so you can be sure about the results.

Next-generation innovations
Just like the Nikon 1 V1, the Nikon 1 V2 harnesses the camera’s phenomenal speed and pre/post capture technology to offer innovative features. Available for the first time, Best Moment Capture comprises Smart Photo Selector and the new Slow View, so you can always get the shot you want. Smart Photo Selector quickly captures up to 20 full-resolution images before and after you’ve fully pressed the shutter button. Slow View captures up to 40 full-resolution continuous shots and simultaneously displays them in slow motion on the LCD screen—so you can select the exact moment you want to keep. And Motion Snapshots are now saved as a single image file that’s easy to share: upload them to any platform and tell stories in a whole new way.

Movie Magic!
Shoot in advanced movie mode with the Nikon 1 V2 and you can record Full HD movies at 60 and 30 fps and 60i, 60p, and 30p frame rates, with full control over shutter speed and aperture. Film with a smaller frame size and you can achieve dramatic effects in extreme slow motion, with recording speeds of up to 1200fps[4]. Shoot in movie mode and you can get the best of both worlds by capturing full-resolution photos (aspect ratio 3:2) while filming a Full HD movie.

Nikon-1-V2-SBN7Light control: new Speedlight launches
Launching alongside the Nikon 1 V2 is Nikon’s new Speedlight SB-N7 flash unit. This powerful i-TTL compatible Speedlight boasts a guide number of 18/59 (at ISO 100 m/ft), the flash head tilts up to 120°, and an external wide panel is included. It is the ideal piece of kit for photographers who want to control the quality and direction of light in order to add a creative touch to images, or illuminate subjects in low light situations.

I AM ALL FOR ONE: 1 NIKKOR range expands
Nikon’s range of 1 NIKKOR lenses is set to expand with the launch of three new lenses in 2013. Currently in development, the lenses include an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, a compact 10x high-power zoom lens, and a fast portrait lens. The new lenses will join the recently launched 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 lens, enhancing the flexibility of the Nikon 1 system and opening up new opportunities for Nikon 1 owners. The 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 lens is a fast prime lens that enables superb low light images, even at low ISO, as well as portraits with beautiful bokeh.

The growing range of optional system accessories combine with the portability, power, and speed of Nikon 1 cameras to help you get the most out of your shooting.

FT-1 Mount Adapter: NIKKOR F-mount lenses mounted on the FT-1 mount adapter have a 2.7x focal length crop factor, which means the lens’s angle-of-view becomes almost three times as long. If you use AF-S and AF-I NIKKOR lenses, you can still make full use of the incredible Nikon 1 autofocus system[5] and high-speed continuous shooting rates of 10/30/60 fps[6].

WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter: Nikon’s small wireless mobile adapter makes it quick and simple to share high-quality Nikon 1 images straight from your camera to a smartphone or tablet[7].
