Following the successful photographic outing of the re-formed West Midlands Group at Baddesley Clinton a few weeks ago, Peter Jepson, the organizer of the group, is pleased to announce that the next photo-excursion will take place at Charlecote Park, Warwickshire on Saturday, 29th September 2012.

Charlecote Park is a grand 16th century country house surrounded by its own deer park on the banks of the River Avon near Wellesbourne, about four miles east of Stratford-upon-Avon and five and a half miles south of Warwick. It is a Grade I listed building and a National Trust property. It was built in 1558 by Sir Thomas Lucy, and Queen Elizabeth I stayed in the room that is currently the drawing room.
The general outline of the Elizabethan house remains, and the gardens include a formal parterre, colourful herbaceous planting, a woodland walk and the wider parkland which was landscaped by ‘Capability’ Brown in about 1760 and has exceptional views across the River Avon. All this offers some wonderful photographic opportunities. A herd of fallow deer has been in the park since Tudor times, and the story goes that William Shakespeare allegedly poached rabbits and deer in the park as a young man and was brought before magistrates as a result, although the story may be more myth than reality.
