Description
Starting in Arusha the tour heads first to Tarangire National Park, continuing to Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, before concluding in the Serengeti National Park. These locations offer an astounding amount of game to photograph; with Tarangire being famous for its elephants, Manyara for its monkeys & baboons, Ngorongoro for some of the last remaining rhinos in Tanzania and the Serengeti for the wildebeest migration and big cats.
By early July the dry season is well underway and the wildlife is beginning to congregate around the diminishing number of water supplies, resulting in some fabulous photographic opportunities.
Itinerary:
Day 1 – Saturday, 5th July 2014
On arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met and transferred by road to Arusha. Accommodation will be at the Arusha Hotel, where Paul & Simon will host a meeting in the evening for everyone to meet each other and discuss the plan for the week ahead.
Day 2 – Sunday, 6th July 2014
Road transfer to Tarangire National Park; you’ll pass through countryside inhabited by the Masai, recognisable by their bright red shuka (cloak). The rest of the day will be spent exploring the stunning Tarangire National Park. Accommodation will be in the heart of the park at Tarangire Sopa Lodge for 2 nights.

Day 3 – Monday, 7th July 2014
During the dry season, from July to October, over 250,000 mammals migrate to Tarangire National Park, in search of the last remaining permanent water supply of the Tarangire River. Most spectacular is the contingent of up to 10,000 elephants, making it one of the largest concentrations of elephants anywhere in Africa. You’ll have the day photographing these amazing animals and a vast amount of other game.
Day 4 – Tuesday, 8th July 2014
Following a morning game drive in the Tarangire National Park, you’ll drive up over the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, and continue on into the Ngorongoro Highlands. On the way you will pass through small towns and villages, coffee plantations and the terraced farmland that makes the most of the fertile volcanic soil. Accommodation for 2 nights will be at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, which sits on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, from where you will be able to enjoy the views, as you look out across one of the most amazing natural wonders in the world.

Day 5 – Wednesday, 9th July 2014
An early start to the day will ensure you are in position to observe the sun rise in the Ngorongoro crater. This huge volcanic crater offers not only beautiful scenery but is also home to an incredible density of mammal and bird life; it is one of the few places in Tanzania where you will see Rhino. The contrast of wildlife and scenery make this an epic place for an action packed day of photography.
Day 6 – Thursday, 10th July 2014
During the morning you’ll drive down from the Ngorongoro Highlands and into the Serengeti National Park, where you’ll have the rest of the day to photograph the amazing wildlife and scenery before arriving at your accommodation, the Serengeti Wilderness Camp, in the afternoon. This is a traditional tented safari camp and having spent the last few nights in lodges it provides a great opportunity to get close to nature in the heart of the Serengeti. After a full day of games drives you’ll be able to relax around the campfire and enjoy exchanging stories from the day’s activities.
Day 7 – Friday, 11th July 2014
At this time of year the wildebeest migration is taking place through central and western Serengeti as the huge herds continue their journey north to the Mara River. The day will begin early in order to capture this amazing event at first light, with the dramatic clash between predators and the migrating herds providing an exciting opportunity to capture some great action shots. After a full day of photography you’ll enjoy a second evening in the Serengeti Wilderness Camp.
Day 8 – Saturday, 12th July 2014
The day will begin in the Serengeti National Park with your final game drive of the trip, before catching a flight back to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Photographic Tuition
Your tour leaders and photographic tutors, Paul and Simon, will be with you throughout the trip in order to help you learn and gain more from your passion for the photography of wildlife. They will help you acquire the photographs you have come to capture.
Your two tutors have a wealth of knowledge to share, so you will be encouraged to seek instruction and ask questions to ensure you make the most of the photographic opportunities. They will be on hand at all times in the field to offer guidance in a relaxed and informal manner. To support and enhance the field based tuition Paul and Simon will also provide further teaching in a more “formal” manner during breaks between game drives and on some evenings. During these sessions they will discuss the creative processes behind recording exciting images of African wildlife, as well as provide inspiration for new ideas and describe photographic techniques for you to try out.
Feedback on your pictures is crucially important to help you develop and hone your wildlife photography skills; Paul and Simon will be keen to provide this at any time on a one-to-one basis and during the more formal tuition sessions, if you are willing to show your work, within the group.
