Mike and Pat Clarke, who run the very successful North Midland Group, would like to invite everyone to the next major photo-outing at Lathkill Dale, which, with with its waterfalls and wildlife, is one of Derbyshire’s loveliest and most peaceful dales. This will be followed by a visit to the photogenic Magpie Mine.

The river Lathkill rises just below Monyash and flows down to meet the Wye just below Haddon Hall. The valley it forms is one of the finest of the limestone dales and the upper part is a National Nature Reserve.

The Magpie Mine, just South of Sheldon, was one of the most famous lead mines in the Peak District and is the only one with a significant part of its building still standing. The mine was most widely in use in the mid-19th Century.

The group will then travel the few miles to Lathkill Dale and spend about an hour there before continuing on the short journey to Magpie Mine.

Time to meet: 1.30 p.m.
Anticipated finish time: 4.00 p.m. – 5.00 p.m.

Meal out

Mike and Pat have suggested that an early evening meal in a local pub would be a pleasant way to finish this afternoon but you are very welcome to come along just for the walk or to join them for dinner afterwards.

Booking: IMPORTANT

If you would like to join Mike and Pat on this photographic outing, would you kindly send an e-mail to Gillian Greenwood (gillian.greenwood@nikonownermagazine.com). In addition, please add your name to this thread on the message board.
