In July the sun is hot
Is it shining? No it’s not!
Flanders & Swann: A Song of the Weather
Andy Hewson and Adrian Cochrane, the organisers of the South Coast Group, would like to kindly invite everyone to their next photo-outing of the summer. They have organised a photographic walk for Nikon Owner subscribers (family members can attend as well) at Southampton Common on Saturday 28th July 2012, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Meeting Place: The car park at The Cowherds Pub, The Avenue, Southampton (see maps below), SO15 7NN
Start time: 4:30 p.m.
Finish time: Approximately 8:00 p.m., followed by an (optional) meal at The Cowherds Pub

The circular walk on the Common will be along pathways which are expected to be reasonably dry underfoot, but as there are many additional small paths and grassy areas to explore, Adrian and Andy would suggest that you wear walking boots. There are several ponds and lakes on the Common and the many and varied photographic opportunities range from macro photography – a variety of insects, including damsel flies – to landscape, both woodland and fields, all in all, a very attractive environment for many different sorts of photography.
The circular walk will start from the The Cowherds Pub car park and finish the route at the same point. Andy and Adrian have booked a table at the pub for 8:30 p.m., so if you decide to stay for the meal after the walk, it is expected that the evening will finish at about 10:00 p.m., but of course, you are welcome to leave at the end of the outing or whenever you would like to.
For more information about Southampton Common, including a downloadable PDF map, please visit the Southampton City Council web site about the Common.
It is recommended that you download and print off a copy of the map to bring with you.
To help the organisation of the meal, Andy has requested that people who would like to stay on for the meal order in advance before the group sets off for the afternoon walk.
The Cowherds Pub is located towards the south-east corner of the Common – as shown on the map on the left. The pub is the grey marker in the top half of the map.
The Duke of Wellington, which is our regular venue, is marked by the yellow marker towards the bottom of the map (shown above) – Andy has added this location just to give you a guide.
An aerial view of just the Common (with the pub marker) is shown below.

With very best wishes,
